Everyday I'm Shufflin #6 - anatomy practical day running diary

#6

3/12/13 Tuesday
5383, wow

6:00 AM: Alarm goes off.

6:02 AM: 5 push ups.

6:35 AM: Depart for MUSC.

6:52 AM: Arrive at gym. Elliptical while listening to "This American Life." They are playing Dr. Dre's "Still D.R.E." in the background while talking about prohibiting lap dancing in Tampa. The topic was Rosa Parks. I bet Ira Glass has a good life. Fun facts about Ira - is a staunch atheist and his college major was semiotics

7:51 AM: Arrive at library. Check fantasy basketball team - "Linsane in the Membrane." Realize I forgot to set my lineups. Test week. [shakes head]

8:05 AM: Start Anki flash cards.

8:27 AM: This flash card comes up: When is the villous stage?

What the f..? I hate placenta.

9:02 AM: Finish flash cards. Post on blog.

9:30 AM: Reread placenta lectures. Still doesn't make sense. 8 months into med school and I still don't understand amnion and yolk sac folding.

10:40 AM: Where is BPH? The middle or the transition zone? Oh, it's the same. Different lectures just call it different things. Thanks.

10:47 AM: Need break.. First lunch. Overhear conversations about anatomy practical. I keep hearing things I don't know. Could be a bad sign. Not sure yet.

12:19 PM: Library push ups. Too many people that the regular 4th floor overlook spot is overflowing. Expand to floor 3.5. Epic. Only during test week.

12:30 PM: Pre-practical coffee break.

Keith: What's your TPP? (tough pin predictions)

My pick was puboprostatic ligament.

Someone had the half-baked idea to ask every person their TPP so we could have a comprehensive list of every possible hard pin. It made perfect sense at the time, except the time might be better spent scanning through the anatomy class notes. Everything that could be pinned is in there.. right?

1:00 PM: Practical begins. I hope ganglion impars is pinned.

tunica albuginea
1:07 PM: Pretty sure that's a vagina, but it could definitely be a rectum.

1:45 PM: Leaving the practical. Took the stairs for the first time. 6 floors is long. Following the guy in front of me in a daze. What just happened? All I remember is a lot of obturating.

1:48 PM: Back in the locker room. Everyone complaining about this and that pin. ..I really don't want to hear about the ten questions I just missed. Can't we just forget about it and move on? Is this what happens in the girls locker room?

2:15 PM: I hate studying after the practical. Instead, with Sudeep - en route to Bojangles.

2:21 PM: mmm. Fried chicken biscuit.

2:58 PM: Now at Walmart. Looking at Easter Candy selection. mmm. Jolly Rancher jelly beans.

3:28 PM: Heading back to campus, but it's not 4:30 yet so we can't park in the close lot. Still need to kill time. Guess we should go for a romantic walk at Colonial Lake.

3:30 - 4:30 PM: Did about 5 or 6 laps around Colonial Lake, breaking down life with Sudeep. If I was a girl I would definitely date Sudeep.

5:07 PM: Finally back at the library. I feel guilty, like I need to do some studying. It is test week.

5:09 PM: Sitting around with four pissed off students complaining about the practical. I should really study.. Fighting urge to study for honors. Although.. if we're going to sit around and do nothing, we might as well drink beer.

5:23 PM: Sitting around with four pissed off students complaining about the practical. While drinking beers at Fuel. Great post-practical tradition. I mean, you aren't getting anything done after the practical anyways.

6:45 PM: Back at home. Hanging out with wife friend. Loving UG block - taking procrastinating to the max.

See you on the other side,

Everyday I'm Shufflin #4: hospital visit running diary

 #4

aka hospital visit, aka shadowing a nurse

5:20 PM: Depart home for unnamed hospital.

5:43 PM: Arrive one hour before hospital visit starts. Open Net Anatomy to get a head start on studying.

5:45 PM: Instead, research Chris Paul vs Kyrie Irving stats.

6:28 PM: I should really do something... Back to Net Anatomy.

..what?
6:45 PM: Lost in the hospital, trying to find unnamed hospital unit. That's how often M1's are in the hospital.

6:47 PM: Arrive at unit. Can't find charge nurse, stand around awkwardly hoping someone will ask me something.

6:51 PM: A bunch of doctors converge around this one patient's room. Follow them around like a puppy dog. Hope they do something cool. Wait, I hope they don't ask me any questions..

6:58 PM: The doctors stick a tube down this guy's throat. I think that's called an intubation, but, not really sure. Everyone disperses.

7:11 PM: Still waiting for charge nurse.

7:16 PM: Watching one of the bitter residents skyping with his son. That must be fun.

7:23 PM: Charge nurse arrives: "I don't have any patients tonight so I can just show you around for a bit, then you're free to leave."

Ken to self: "Don't screw this up."

7:25 PM: We see a patient that has some high tech catheter contraption running up from the back of his knee into his abdomen that bombards blood clots with radio waves to destroy them.

modern medicine
7:28 PM: Ken: Do you like your job?

Nurse: Yeah, I used to be a chem major so this is a big change. When I was younger I never thought I'd be a nurse and taking orders, but I really like it here. In the ICU you get to do some thinking as a nurse. The doctors give you a little more autonomy, and it feels like they treat you more like a comrade than their slave.

7:32 PM: Ken: Any complaints about doctors for a med student?

Nurse: Your life is probably going to be hard, you have to listen to nurses bitch at you for the rest of your life. At the same time, you should listen to nurses. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help because you don't know everything.

7:37 PM: Going around the unit to calibrate instruments while talking more bullshit about working in a hospital.

7:41 PM: Walking out the door. So clutch.

Everyday I'm shufflin #3 - pre-exam day running diary

#3

A running diary of the day before exam day, the craziest day of study week. Enjoy,

5:20 AM: Wake up.

5:21 AM: 5 pushups. Need to train for library muscle club. Also I made up a theory that if you exercise in the morning you can adapt your circadian clock. I really want to be a morning person.

6:03 AM: Arrive wellness center. I've always wondered.. couldn't they just call it the gym? Also, can they build more basketball courts?

6:55 AM: Arrive library. Open internet.

7:25 AM: Start studying.

7:50 AM: First friend comes over to chat about Henderson Hasselbalch equation. Day of social studying officially begins.

8:07 AM: Just finished my tea. I think I'm a little dehydrated from Taco Tuesday last night with Katie. $3 tacos and Coronas, come on. What should I do to retain more water.. !  Consume salt to upregulate ADH. Start eating chips.

8:49 AM: Receive second question about Henderson Hasselbalch.

11:35 AM: Calling every possible phone number at the med school I used to work at to try and figure out how to get them to mail me my W2. I hate talking to administrators. I hate taxes. No wonder so many rich famous people get arrested for taxes.

12:04 PM: Back to studying neural signaling of hunger. Freaking out a little bit. So many acronyms. What the fuck is ARC. I hate neuro.

12:33 PM: Back to procrastinating. Just read this interview question with Dirk Nowitzki:

1:37 PM: Play Calvin Harris - 18 Months for the fourth or fifth time in the past two days.

1:42 PM: Pissed off at world.

2:43 PM: Group ME studying. Everyone dying. Send help.

3:15 PM: Three people sleeping on couches behind us. Everyone zonked.

3:24 PM: The last time we had an exam was before Christmas, almost two months ago. There's a TON of material on this exam. So much stuff I haven't covered. I could focus on the anatomy, the renal, the biochemistry.. this is going to be a hard test.

3:42 PM: There's a soccer game on in the corner. These commercials are more interesting than nucleotide metabolism.

Tripp: Dude, getting to dUMP is difficult. Dump is definitely going on the test.

3:56 PM: Debating giving up for the night. Should we just give up?

Daniel goes home to take nap. Two students behind us still napping.

4:23 PM: Going over caffeine lecture. Need more coffee.

4:38 PM: Should we be studying in a room? We're being kind of loud, gathering six chairs and sitting around to talk shit.

5:06 PM: Going over defense mechanisms. Why are we tested over these poorly defined terms? What's the difference between denial/suppression/repression.

Paras throws crumpled paper at trash can, misses.

Keith: You suck at basketball.

Sudeep: It's ok Paras, Keith is just projecting at you.

5:30 PM: Percussing ourselves. Sudeep has reticuloendothelial disease.

5:38 PM: Did you know - if you have white poop you might have pancreatic cancer.

5:38 PM: 13 med students surrounding each other and freaking out. Do intercalated ducts modify secretions? The syllabus says BOTH things! Serious crisis occurring. Everybody yelling at me to stop blogging about it. Richard egging on chaos.

5:50 PM: Mass migration from library, everyone burned out on library chaos.

5:51 PM: Library push up set.

5:56 PM: Girl glares at us. Getting too loud.

6:10 PM: Jonathan busts out break dancing move. Wish I was that cool.

6:30 PM: Depart for home. Drink beer. Study FPC, histo. Pray.

Hope you survive.

Relationships in med school pt 8: I got 99 problems - bachelor pad weekend running diary

best friend goes to DC for the weekend
My goal when I came up with this idea was to write a "Relationships in med school" post about being a bachelor for a weekend, but it morphed into a "Everyday I'm Shufflin" post because all I did was study. Anyways, enjoy.

Begin running diary:

--

2/7/13 THU

9:30 AM: Drop Katie off at Charleston Amtrak, pretty sure there were like six passengers. How is Amtrak still in business?

9:54 AM: Arrive back at home. ..What should I do?

step 1 - walk around shirtless
10:00 AM: Eating ramen. Breakfast of champions.

10:13 AM: Still hungry. Combine all ingredients in fridge to make giant mess including pasta. Set with leftovers for the weekend.

11:00 AM: Drinking green tea. Listening to Soltis at 2.5x speed. So efficient. Loving life.

11:55 AM: Waiting for electrician so I can go get coffee, almost reaching afternoon coffee time. Has to be between 12:00 and 2:45, any later and chaos will insue. I've considered carrying around caffeine pills to self-medicate. I should never smoke cigarettes.. I would be a 2 packs a day level smoker within a week.

12:35 PM: Starting to hit wall, still waiting for electrician.

12:37 PM: Need caffeine. Hating life.

12:38 PM: Start looking for apartments. Our lease is up in August, so I should probably start looking. Living downtown would be so convenient...

1:10 PM: Electrician arrives. I hate taking care of stuff like this. I wish Katie was here.

1:17 PM: Pretty sure that guy was trained in OLDCARTS. This succession of questions just happened:

So what's the problem today?

...right?
And how long has this been happening?

Have you noticed it being associated with anything else?

Anything else I can do for you today?

I feel a half-baked idea coming..

2:05 PM: Off to Muddy Waters to grab coffee and get a change of scenery. It's nice to have a car. So much freedom.

3:21 PM: This text exchange just happened:

Katie - Been hit on three times in the last five minutes. ;)

Ken - 5 girls liked my most recent blog post.

What I should have said: Just hit on three girls in the last five minutes.

I wish I was this funny in real time.

5:00 PM: Arrive at library, waste time saying hi to everyone in my immediate radius.

Ken: Hey what's up?
Friend: Not much just been here studying, you?
Ken: Same, just studied at home.

Repeat conversation five times.

8:15 PM: Watch NBA, Celts crush now defunct Lakers. Steve Nash thinking, "I bet I could make it work with Tyson Chandler and Melo.."

8:23 PM: Katie arrives in DC, still alive. Good to know.

8:24 PM: Attention back to basketball.

11:00 PM: sleep

--

2/8/13 FRI

5:35 AM: Alarm beeping. Wake up confused. Where's wife best friend? What are these stuffed animals doing here?

5:37 AM: I need to get up.

5:39 AM: Now I really need to get up.

6:05 AM: Depart MUSC. Too early..

10:26 AM: Watching recorded lectures. Unnamed professor suggests illegally obtaining marijuana. Strong work.

6:45 PM: MUSC MSTP recruiting dinner

7:20 PM: After beer and wine, the conversation is getting serious. Just asked these 3 questions -

What's the purpose of religion?

Do you think a devout Muslim, a faithful Christian, and a staunch Atheists are different or similar?

What's your religious background?

Welcome to MUSC, where shit gets real.

8:37 PM: Dinner ends, to Folly! sidenote - This needs to evolve into a half-baked idea but I've always thought the water is the biggest draw of Charleston. (not the drinking water) MUSC is bringing in recruits from places like Michigan and New York in the middle of January when it's absolutely miserable. Why take them on a tour of downtown, when you could take them to the beach? I feel like the acceptance rate would sky rocket. Who says no to spending the bulk of their 20's living fifteen minutes from the beach?

9:15 PM: Night walk at Folly. Ken loving it way more than applicants.

10:30 pm: Arrive home. Had a fun night, want to tell wife friend about it but she's not here. :( Instead, read twitter.

--

2/9/13 SAT

6:15 AM: Alarm goes off, should get to library.

6:15 AM: Alarm promptly turned off, back to sleep.

8:45 AM: Roll out of bed. Loving waking up whenever I want.

10:30 AM: Arrive libs.

the coffee break
bringing med students together everywhere
3:07 PM: Making coffee with three friends.

3:09 PM: Coffee made, guess we should probably go back and study now.

3:30 PM: After 20 minutes of complaining, we finally go back to study. I love the luxury of procrastinating. I feel time crunched a lot of the time because I have to be productive in the studying time I have. I imagine this would be one of the highlights of being single in med school, you have all the time in the world to talk shit with classmates.

8:07 PM: Therapy session with male friend having women issues. Glad I'm married. If you having girl problems, I feel bad for you son.

10:07 PM: Some library pushups with Paul and Sudeep. My body is used to being asleep at 10:07 PM.

11:17 PM: Still at libs. Sitting in the Sudeep red chair corner. Late night studying, talking shit, just like the good old days. Shoutout to Jon Weil and Kaleb Keyserling, thanks for helping me survive late nights at Kenyon. Living the bachelor dream.

12:34 AM: Depart library after setting a late night library PR.

1:07 AM: Sleep.

--

2/10/13 SUN

9:25 AM: Phone buzzes, text from Katie: Pray I catch my train. It might be close.

Ken to God: There's a 100% chance Katie makes this train, I'm locking it in, but just in case, can you make sure she makes it? Back to sleep.

9:33 AM: Phone buzzes, text from Katie: At my gate ready to go! Phew!

Back to sleep.

9:34 AM: Wait, should I go to church? Back to sleep.

10:45 AM: Finally get out of bed - make breakfast, wash the dishes, laundry, cook lunches. This must be one of the big downsides of being single in med school. So much time doing chores, although at least I got to catch up on a great BS podcast:

7:20 PM: Reunited:

Running Diary: this is water tattoos

Apparently, when you get married you're supposed to give all your groomsmen a gift.  I wanted to gift something that had Ken written all over it, so I went with a short (you're welcome groomsmen) book that was originally an inspirational commencement speech given at Kenyon College.  It was given by David Foster Wallace (DFW), a literary legend.  The book was entitled, This Is Water.

Quick summary: Two young fish are swimming along the river one day when they come across an older fish who says to them, "Morning boys, how's the water?"  And swims on.  The two young fish swim on and one of them asks, "What the hell is water?"

My friend Amulya really loved the book, so a few months ago we decided to get "this is water" tattooed on ourselves.  Here's the running diary:

9 PM: Amulya arrives at my mom's house in Newton, MA.  sidenote - my bedtime is usually around 9 or 10, so I was about ready to pass out at this point, but we drove over to Amulya's house for a bro slumber party and watched the Celtics-Kings game.  DeMarcus Cousins went for a triple double and the Celtics lost 118-96 to the second worst team in the West.  Classic 2012 Celtics.  sidenote - I would love to see this trade: straight up, Cousins for Rondo.

Fast forward to 2 AM: Listening to DFW give the This Is Water speech at Kenyon.  Analyzing it one last time for its significance.

Next morning, wake up at 10 AM: Take Amulya's dog out to walk through fresh New England powder.  I wish I had a dog.  Except when it poops.  I want someone else to pick up the poop.

1 PM: Start the drive towards Providence, RI - the land of tattoos.

1:15 PM: Ken checks phone.  hmm...  You have 3 new messages from Katie Noguchi.  This can't be good.  Katie doubts ken will actually come home with a tattoo.

1:40 PM: Arrive in Providence, surprisingly short drive.  The first tattoo parlor only has about 4 font options..  Pass.

1:55 PM: Arrive at tattoo shop #2 - Providence Tattoo, referred to on yelp as the BMW gallery of tattoo shops.

sidenote - I would have live tweeted this epic event but I don't know how to use twitter yet.  Although, I did just read an idiot's guide to twitter.

2:15 PM: Ken and Amulya make a reservation for 5 PM, and embark on one last tattoo strategy session at a hip coffee shop - Cafe Zog.  SO much time spent on dafont.com going through hundreds of possible fonts.  Countless screenshots and editing different images in powerpoint eventually resulted in this:
font: daniel

Amulya decided to go with his own handwriting. A brilliant idea I would have copied, except I have doctor handwriting which looks like this:

4:30 PM: Leave Cafe Zog, back to Providence Tattoo.

5:10 PM: Our tattoo artist drew out "this is water" trying to copy Amulya's handwriting, but it looked girly so we had to make a last minute switch to:

font: garamond

Didn't feel right to audible this late, but we had to.

6 PM: Walking out of Providence Tattoo with ink.

7:15 PM: Back in Newton, dazed and confused, we stopped at Starbucks to get some coffee and reanalyze the lingering question: Why did we just do this?

yolo
Our temporary conclusion: This Is Water is about paying attention to water.  It's too easy to get caught up in our day-to-day routines.  Wake up, make coffee, go to class, go for a jog, eat dinner with wife, call it a day. I love a good routine, but the danger is that we become numb to the details.

And that was the major reason Amulya and I wanted these tattoos. To have a constant reminder of all the small decisions that surround our inevitably routine lives.  Take the example of owning a dog - loving a dog isn't just about having a friend that's always around, it's also about being a responsible dog owner and picking up its poop.  This Is Water is about realizing that we need to pay attention to poop.

But at the end of the day, Amulya and I just love doing bold things like this together.

MUSC Orientation Running Diary

Ever wondered what med school orientation is like?  Here's your chance to find out.

Enter Bill Simmons style med school orientation running diary.  This is the second installation of sidenote running diaries.

Aug 15th WED

dr dre uses these actual headphones,
immediately the coolest thing I own
7:30 AM -  Brand new headphones, pens, and notebooks in hand.  Ready.  The upside - orientation starts with a free breakfast, the downside - it's crappy coffee and stale bagels.

7:35 AM - Walking through a hallway crammed with med students. Everyone brought their friend cliques from Clemson or token local Charleston high school.  I wish Keyser and Jon Weil were here.

9:00 AM - Orientation starts with an inspirational video about MUSC.  Over/under on number of inspired students: 1.

10:30 AM - The boss, Dean of Medicine Dr. Etta Pisano gives a speech.

10:38 AM - Dr. Pisano throws in a clip from Scrubs. This is great.  Scrubs is the #1 influence in my life guiding me to medicine.

10:44 AM - Scrubs clip #2.  I was born to be a doctor.

11:05 AM - Scrubs clip #3.  Second guessing my decision not to write my personal statement about Scrubs.

like a duck
2:15 PM - Waiting in line to get fitted for some sort of mask...  I think it's to pretend to be a duck so we can entertain sick kids. Patch Adams?

3:00 PM - Considering going back to the lab.

--

Aug 16th THU

8:00 AM - Scheduled departure for MUSC.

8:01 AM - Wait, why aren't we leaving?  We have a flat tire?  Oh, great...

8:40 AM - Sitting on bus.

9:30 AM - Sneak into giant lecture hall to listen to more bureaucracy.  Something about student affairs.  Maybe that flat wasn't that bad.

3:25 PM - Ken and Katie arrive at airport after Katie spends 6 hours sitting and waiting for car tires to be repaired.  Maybe the flat was that bad.

3:30 PM - Mom arrival for vacation/white coat ceremony.

6:00 PM - Crappy orientation meals end, expensive dinners start.

--

Aug 17th FRI

pretty sure this place isn't on groupon
9:50 AM - Pick up syllabus.  500 pgs of power point slides.  Test in 4 weeks.  Over/under on score a current doctor would get on this first exam: 50%.

12:00 PM - Picnic lunch in gymnasium.  Walking around making awkward side glances at all the tables.

Should I sit there?

Are they too cool for me to sit with?

Oh hey!

Someone I know!

Saved!

1:15 PM: Strongly considering going back to the lab.

--

Aug 19th SUN

12:00 PM - White coat ceremony

3 out of 4 of the 2012 MD/PhD family
Sidenote - Debated wearing the smily face tie, ultimately opted for my grandfather's tie.  It's funnier if people think I'm serious first, then learn my weird sense of humor.

Anyways, I'm officially a doctor.  No, wait.. in 6 to 10 years, I will officially be a doctor.  Then I'll be a resident for 3 years.  And then I'll be a fellow for 2 to 5 years.

THEN I'll officially be a doctor.  So that's...  adding in head... 11 to 18 years...

Glad we did this whole white coat thing.

Aug 20th MON

8:00 AM -  Orientation finally ends.  Classes start.  Wake me in 11 to 18 years.

See you on the other side,

Pre-wedding running diary

In Bill Simmons-style, a running diary of Ken’s pre-wedding adventures, up through the ceremony.

9/13 Tuesday

4:15 PM: Ken leaves work until next Tuesday, forgets about HEK293 cells and mTfR2-venus chimeras for 160 hours.

5:00 PM: Ken thinks about everything he still has to do before the wedding, panics.

5:02 PM: Ken realizes it’s like four things, sits on the couch and reads a book.

7:43 PM: Ken and mom reunite. We drove in circles for about an hour trying to find Sellwood. Partly because Sellwood is hard to find, but I swear, if we could have taken the Springwater bike trail we could have easily gotten to Sellwood.

9/14 Wednesday

11 AM: My mom’s mom arrives in town, she came all the way from Japan! She is your traditional cute little old Japanese woman, the way cookie cutter grandmothers should be.

12:30 PM: After lunch, my mom, grandmother, and I are driving around downtown, and out of no where I saw one of my best friend’s from college Anna Griffin! I knew she was in town, but we hadn’t seen each other yet, and we had an awesome impromptu run in.

5 PM: Katie and her mom are moving Katie into our apartment. Ken walks into the apt. This conversation happens:

Katie: Hey, we’re reorganizing!

Ken: Oh, hey the couch didn’t used to be there. Huh, the plates didn’t used to be there. What? Yeah, of course I love the new location for the toilet paper.

Katie’s mom: Ken here’s some advice Katie’s dad would have given you. Just say, “yes dear.”

Marriage begins.

6 PM: Celebration of Ken’s first day of wedding vacation at Hop Haven.

My favorite part was that my friend Barry came. Barry and I ran Hood to Coast, and we are also on the finance team at our church, so we’ve bonded over the past year or so. Barry’s also a grandfather, but I keep telling him he’s way younger than he thinks.

About a year ago I decided that I was too mature to judge maturity based on numerical age. Mostly this was out of defensiveness for this statistic:

Age at marriage for those who divorce in America:

<20 – 12%
20-24 – 39%
25-29 – 22%
30-34 – 12%
35-39 – 7%

I’m 22. I swear I’m a mature 22.

9/15 Thursday

3 AM: Ken wakes up. Officially starting to get nervous and having anxiety.

3:30 AM – 9 AM: Ken goes in and out through sleeping and waking.

10:15 AM: Ken, Katie, and our moms all go out for breakfast. I’m glad they all get along. We eat greasy American breakfast, I don’t think my mom likes it, but she’s polite.

Rest of the day, a nervous blur. Somewhere there was coffee and beer involved.

9/16 Friday

2:30 PM: Keyser and Ken are getting lunch downtown, with plenty of time to get to the rehearsal at 3:00 PM.

3:00 PM: Ken is lost. Close to Tigard, a suburb of Portland. Keyser and I have this conversation:

Keyser: Aren’t you stressed out about this?

Ken: Hmm, I’m not sure if I need to be, I should check with Katie.

3:30 PM: Ken finally arrives at the rehearsal. The minister is also late, so it blows over. I’m telling you, it’s even hard to find Sellwood with God on your side.

5:00 PM: Everyone arrives at Ken’s mom’s rental house for a Japanese rehearsal dinner. Lots of photo’s are taken.

8:00 PM: Ken and friends arrive at 24 hour fitness, pay $20 to work out. Ken plays in his token one basketball game of the year. He took a few shots, and one went in. It was awesome.

My friends Keyser and Heath have the following conversation about five times the rest of the night:

Heath: We could’ve pick and rolled all night.

Keyser: Yeeah, we were all about the pick and roll!

I’m still not exactly sure what a pick or roll is. Oh and this one:

Keyser: Hey, who do you think is taller, you or me.

Heath: Dude we’ve compared like three times already. You’re taller.

2:30 AM: Ken and Needham friends, who’ve known each other of upwards of ten years now, have a slumber party on Ken’s floor. This might be the last night Ken ever gets to sleep on a floor. For some reason, this is a luxury.

9/17 Saturday

12:20 PM: Ken has his first nervous breakdown. Probably the first of many. Ken doesn’t like posed photographs. Sidenote – I’m pretty sure I have some sort of social anxiety disorder.

3:00 PM: Ceremony starts with only a little bit of rain.

3:01 PM: Ken sees Katie and the bridesmaids doing a group prayer, so Ken tries to top them by doing a groomsmen huddle snap bomb. It’s complicated, but you take a snap in your hand, throw it in the air, and snap when you catch it at the bottom. It’s complicated.

3:30 PM: Ken walks down the aisle with best man, Mooks, tries to hold his hand, doesn’t work.

3:35 PM: Mooks tells Elm Bank story, epic. I almost cried.

3:45PM: Ceremony ends, Ken is a little bit relieved.
